Inspiring Women: Frida Giannini

On a late night when I should have gone to bed but didn't, in my onDemand library I had the pleasure of finding the James Franco produced fashion documentary Gucci: The Director about Frida Giannini. The documentary provides an inside look into the famed Creative Director's life over the course of three parts or segments: past, present, and future. As I watched this woman tell the story of her work at Gucci, I was completely enamored by her, and by the end of the docu, I found a new inspiration or role model of sorts.

She is the kind of 21st century woman that I think women should look up to. She has such an amazing work ethic, which is the one thing I want people to know me for. Throughout the documentary, I saw so many different sides to this woman; I saw the side of her that is the total boss, the kind of person I want to be, the one who walks into a room with confidence and knows that they own the shit out of that room. When she wanted something, for instance a runway set, she saw that the vision and ideas were executed perfectly and accordingly to the Gucci standard. But she also showed a side of her that was very fun, kind, and grounded, she's the kind of people you want to surround yourself with. Although I don't know her personally, she seems like a very well-rounded person, and really, isn't that how we all wish we appeared to others? But she actually succeeded. As amazing as it was to get an inside sneak peak behind the doors of such an iconic name, I was more fascinated with watching and hearing Ms. Giannini's story, and in some ways, she even combined her story with Gucci's. You get to know a lot about a person by the way they execute their business. She is the woman who brought Gucci forward past their logo and completely revamped the famous fashion label's image, but she did in a way that honored their past by looking into the archives, and there she found the famed "flora" print.

Despite everything, she seems like a very humble and down-to-earth person. Towards the end of the documentary, the cameras follow her to her family beach house and we get a glimpse into an almost intimate aspect of her life. We see her parents and other people who make up her more personal life, the life away from the glitz and glamour of the fashion world. One story she told that completely amazed me was how she got her start, which did not seem at all as glamorous as the life she leads now, but she said it's because of that internship that she is where she is now. Proves to show that one must pay their dues above all!

Very rarely do people captivate me so much like she has. She is the epitome of the kind of person I want to be. I want people to know me for being hardworking and having a strong work ethic, but also for them to know me for my kindness, good nature, and being able to have fun at the end of the day.

I highly recommend that anyone who has not seen the documentary to watch it. It's on showtime right now so definitely head over and catch it when you can!
